This workshop focuses on the fundamental ideas and values that underpin participants' teaching practices, and explores how an awareness of these foundations can enhance teaching design and delivery. Using the innovative Lego Serious Play method, this workshop aims to facilitate a productive reflective process. Through guided individual and collaborative exercises, participants will reflect on the personal significance of being an educator and how these insights can inform improvements in their teaching practices in a personally meaningful way. Led by a certified Serious Play facilitator, this interactive session is structured to accommodate all levels of experience with Lego Serious Play and Lego building. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained valuable insights into the core ideas and values that drive their teaching practices. This workshop is appropriate for educators at all experience levels, from those who are just beginning their careers to seasoned professionals with decades of experience.

Learning Objectives
  • Participants will reflect on the ideas and values that form the foundation of their teaching practice.
  • Participants will be able to articulate these ideas and values clearly for themselves, opening up a space to build on that foundation.
  • Participants will be introduced to the Lego Serious Play method and explore ways in which they can use this method in the different parts of their teaching practice.
Methods
Workshops in the DCAT teaching qualification program are learner-centered and action-oriented. They work with varying social forms, exercises, group work, reflection and feedback; participants are thus given the opportunity to directly deepen and actively practice what they have learned.
This workshop will use Lego Serious Play. No experience or knowledge of the method is needed to participate fully, but for anyone who would like to know more, please have a look at my website drcarlyinsights.com, or send me an email (c.oneill.barrett@leeds.ac.uk) if you have any questions about it.
